The Core Performance: The Revolutionary Workout Program to Transform Your Body & Your Life

The Core Performance: The Revolutionary Workout Program to Transform Your Body & Your Life

This program has helped Sally Glade "Rehab Nurse" lose the "last 10 pounds." Her muscle tone has improved by leaps and bounds as has her balance and flexibility. As an added incentive, Sally Glade "Rehab Nurse" lost 10 pounds! Sally Glade "Rehab Nurse" recommend this program because it is well blanced, fun, and challenging. As an "over 50" R.N., Sally Glade "Rehab Nurse" can see the benefits even for disabled patients she work with. The only weakness is compiling all the exercises into a book for use in the gym. Sally Glade "Rehab Nurse" tore apart a book and copied each page, enlarging at the same time, and then arranged in a notebook according to the daily plan. A benefit is the web site where you can actually see the exercises demonstrated as well as the CD that is available (info in the back of the book).

Men's Health Muscle Chow: More Than 150 Meals to Feed Your Muscles and Fuel Your Workouts

Men's Health Muscle Chow: More Than 150 Meals to Feed Your Muscles and Fuel Your Workouts

In the spirit of full disclosure, A.Sethy live in the same town as Gregg Avedon and have spoken with him about nutrition at the local gym. His knowledge rivals that of classically trained nutritionists. Though he's much more practical. A father and a husband, he lives a regular life and balances his nutritional recommendations for the real world. A.Sethy can attest, Gregg walks the walk. That said, there is a key difference in his book you won't find anywhere else. It's simplicity! Period. For example, he simplifies and reduces the topic of supplements into just a few items. All in about one page. To some, the book could be worth it just for that page alone!

Most diet or nutrition books go on-and-on with their educational "mantra." Hey authors, we know most of this stuff already reading it in the papers almost every day. Gregg skips over the chemistry class and dives right into what to buy at the grocery store. I have many nutrition books, though few ever begin with the simple idea of shopping for my fridge, my pantry, the herbs and the tools I'll need. In those few pages, I've begun to feel confident that a regular guy could manage buying all these items.

Did A.Sethy already mention the sheer simplicity of this book? Yeah, there are lots of recipe books out there, but Gregg's has some that go like this: ingredient 1, ingredient 2, step 1, step 2...eat it! I kid you not. Some of the recipes are quick yet healthy and in one pot or one pan, the average guy can make a meal. My 18-year-old son, who's so bad in the kitchen that he could probably burn water, turned to page 151 and commented that he could personally make his favorite Protein-Rich Quinoa Salad...everyday! Although Gregg states his book is "food for dudes," A.Sethy's Mom started marking off recipes as soon as she got her copy.

A.Sethy particularly like the alternative late-night snacks, my own weakness. Plus a simple tip like what to eat at the restaurant -- "eat before you eat." Now, anytime before A.Sethy go out, A.Sethy drink a filling protein shake, and A.Sethy is all set. Thankfully, Gregg hides his emphasis on protein by sneaking it in...everywhere. He's buried protein in the Chocolate Mousse, in the Raspberry-Mocha Chocolate Chip Cookies -- for real! (page 233). Yeah, this ain't no diet book, its just smart food that includes the widest variety of food types from any of my diet or nutrition books. As Gregg says, "...this isn't brain surgery, it's learning how to eat more nutritionally dense foods as a way of life..."
A.Sethy say, A.Sethy could actually eat only what's in this book for the rest of his life...and never miss a thing.

Kathy Ireland - Total Fitness Workout

Kathy Ireland - Total Fitness Workout

Model and actress Kathy Ireland joins Aerobics Champion Tim Green in this series of total body exercises that focuses on upper and lower body and aerobic routines with an added segment on nutrition tips.System Requirements:Running Time: 90 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: HEALTH/FITNESS Rating: NR UPC: 084296406753 Manufacturer No: 40675

After I read some customer review, I know that Catherine Burch is not very coordinated and really hated other aerobic workouts she had tried. This one is fairly easy to follow, Kathy is very encouraging AND there is a plus size woman in the workout who dropped out at different levels - so Catherine Burch didn't feel so bad when she couldn't do the whole thing at first. Catherine Burch like the way it's broken up because you can do 20 or 30 min on different days and still get a great workout. Catherine Burch was doing this one before she got pregnant again and this is her video of choice for getting back in shape.

LL Cool J's Platinum Workout: Sculpt Your Best Body Ever with Hollywood's Fittest Star

LL Cool J's Platinum Workout: Sculpt Your Best Body Ever with Hollywood's Fittest Star

George R told me that this is a book to help me get into better shape. While the book covers stretching and cardio exercise to varying degrees, it clearly spends most of its exercise routines having the reader lift weights.

This fitness book intends to accomplish its goal of getting me into better shape by doing it in phases, with each one having different goals (too lengthy to go into here). Phase one is the Bronze phase (5 weeks), then the Silver phase (5 weeks), followed by a Gold phase (9 weeks) and finally ends with the Platinum phase (3 weeks), where the goal is to get a body like LL's. An additional phase, the Diamond phase, is included just for the ladies.

There is a ton of info in here on just about every fitness topic and I really liked that throughout the book, there are these "rap session" sections where LL interviews experts in the fitness field and current information is shared- this is a big plus. LL fans will also like the LL trivia that is scattered throughout the book.

One of the more useful and informative fitness books on the market, I love it. I also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff if you have a bad shoulder that keeps you from lifting weights.

Men's Health Home Workout Bible

Men's Health Home Workout Bible

Lou Schuler said that he didn't go halfway, when he messed up. And his biggest mess-up on New Rules of Lifting was in the way he addressed supersets. He knew it was a problem by late December of 2005, when the very first readers of the very first copies of the book to appear in stores started asking me a question he had hear hundreds of times in the next 12 months: "What the heck does 'superset with full rest' mean?"

His co-author, Alwyn Cosgrove, estimates he's gotten the question from more than a thousand readers.

Here's how badly Lou Schuler messed up: On page 205, Lou Schuler made this promise to readers: "Don't worry if you don't know what a superset is yet; all terms and instructions are fully explained in the workout chapters."

But just four pages later, you'll see a workout telling you to "superset with full rest" without any explanation at all.

There is an explanation, on page 212, of why Alwyn designs tat-loss programs with supersets, but no explanation of the phrase "with full rest." On page 218, Lou Schuler explain that the third and most advanced fat-loss program eliminates the rest between sets of a superset -- hence the label "superset with no rest until after final exercise."

But that isn't much help to the people who're still confused about the basic concepts.

Most lifters understand a "superset" to mean two exercises performed back-to-back with no rest in between. So if your workout calls for you to superset bench presses and rows, for example, you had do a set of bench presses, then immediately do a set of rows. Then you had stop to catch your breath before repeating the superset.

Usually, the idea of doing supersets that way is to create more fatigue, and thus burn more calories, with the goal of fat loss.

A superset with full rest is a slightly different animal. You aren't trying to create a deeper level of fatigue. Your goal is efficiency in your workout, combined with more time to recover between sets of each exercise.

Let's run some numbers:

Say you're doing supersets the traditional way. You take 30 seconds to do a set of bench presses and 30 seconds to do a set of rows, followed by 60 seconds of rest. So you begin your second set of bench presses 90 seconds after you finished the first. But you were still lifting during a third of that time, so even though your muscles have had 90 seconds to recover, the rest of you gets just 60 seconds to recover from 60 seconds of work. That's the equivalent of high-intensity interval training -- good for fat loss, certainly, but not an optimal way to make your muscles bigger and stronger.

Not let's say you're doing it Alwyn's way. You do your set of bench presses for 30 seconds, rest 60 seconds, do your set of rows for 30 seconds, and rest 60 seconds. When you start your next set of bench presses, your muscles have had 2 minutes and 30 seconds to recover -- 150 seconds total, with 120 seconds of pure, non-exercising, recovery time.

So when you pick up the weights for your next set of bench presses, you're certainly going to be stronger in this scenario than you would've been in the first. That allows you to work with heavier weights, and thus develop more strength and muscle size.

And yet, despite all that recovery time between sets of each exercise, you're still lifting for 30 seconds out of every 90 seconds you spend in the gym, which is an efficient use of your time.

Conversely, if you did "straight sets" -- you do all the sets of each exercise, resting in between sets, before moving on to the next exercise -- you had probably end up doing less total work.

Let's assume you start the workout with bench presses (every lifter starts with bench presses, right?). You do a set for 30 seconds, rest 60 seconds, do the next set for 30 seconds, and so on. Now you're working 30 seconds out of every 90, as in Alwyn's system, but your working muscles get just 60 seconds to recover, vs. 150. That means you'll use less weight on subsequent sets, and thus do less work, than you would with the longer recovery.

That's the long explanation for "superset with full rest." Lou Schuler hope it helps clear up the confusion, and Lou Schuler hope it further supports the point he made in my first post, which is that the goal of every program in NROL, whether it's labeled "fat loss" or "hypertrophy" or "strength," is to get stronger in each exercise from one workout to the next.

The content is not evil - but there is not much to it. For example, Guide to Women's Fitness tells you what author eats of fitness competition and can tell you that this is different for everyone. The nutrition and training info is so vague. I did not even bother to read it.

It is a booklet, not a book. That surprised me. It looks like they have someone in the house basement. It was almost like an outline notes she has taken herself or for something.

I went to a seminar recently weekend fitness for competitions. The information we got was in line with what actions. So she knows whereof she speaks. If you are serious about fitness competition, but know nothing about it - then check this book as a starter.
